Learn Patience in Life

I’ve never been a cook. Ever. My husband says that I can burn water (probably true!). He’s Mr. Chef Boyardee & I’m the Queen of Clean & it works in our marriage. But recently, I’ve been making sourdough. I started watching documentaries about sourdough & how interesting the scientific method is. I mean, I LOVE bread, so I was hooked. Months of watching documentaries (I should’ve known better…), reading blogs about sourdough, scanning recipes with sourdough in them - I finally made some. I never thought that making sourdough would be an obsession with me, but it’s definitely up there!

You start with a sourdough starter. Just need flour & water. Easy peezy, right?! No, you have to baby it like a first child. It has a schedule, feeding time, best temperature etc. And you have to have patience. My first time making a starter was a failure. I didn’t have patience & discipline. But I tried it again & then again - this time, I had to make it work. After different flours & a lot of time (1 month), I finally made a batch of bubbly starter. Now, I was to make my first artisan sourdough loaf. One-handed me fumbled the dough together & put it in a cast iron dutch oven (they’re heavy!) to bake. When it was done, it didn’t turn out pretty like all of those pictures online, but it was mine & it tasted incredible!

Having patience reminds me that some things take time in life. In the Bible, God says that we have to be patient when times are hard, even in suffering. But don’t be troubled if you’re struggling; be joyful.

“Dear brothers & sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.” - James 1:2-3

Either you are hurting physically, emotionally, mentally or financially & you don’t know how much more pain or hurt that you can handle - I get it. My testimony shows that. If you haven’t heard my testimony, click here to read my experience. But you can find a way out. Jesus is THE answer. Jesus was waiting for me to be broken & ruined before He came to rescue me from death. You can call Him too. You just need to knock & He will answer.

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you & make you strong, firm & steadfast.” - 1 Peter 5:10

I don’t know what things that God plans for me in this season, but I need to be patient for the next step. I haven’t got much but my heart is filled with the Lord’s love & peace & I’m waiting on Him for His guidance. So, if you haven’t seen me on social or in person, you can find me in my little kitchen, baking delicious bread, worshiping the Lord & thanking Him for everything He has done in my life.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, & thank Him for all He has done.” - Philippians 4:6

Do you struggle with patience or discipline? Having a calm & peaceful mind is what God created us to have. Pray for strength & endurance if you need those in your heart & thank Him for all of the great works in your life.
